About Khyre

I am a proud neighbor of Temple Hills Maryland, where I have lived for four years with my two daughters. I quickly fell in love with not only the county but the state. I grew up in St. Petersburg Florida, acquiring my AA at Saint Petersburg College, before earning a dual B.S. degree in Criminology and Psychology at the University of South Florida in 2014. Yet, despite working two jobs, earning scholarships, and receiving financial aid, I still was forced to take out loans as the costs of college and living expenses rose beyond my resources.

As a teenager, I started working with my local Democrats to engage voters. In 2020, I co-founded Florida for Change in order to educate and uplift about vital causes and events affecting everyday people. I’ve knocked on thousands of doors, registered voters, made calls, collected petition signatures, worked at polling stations, counted ballots. During the Covid-19 outbreak I helped people get rental assistance and vaccines while the federal government was missing in action. My work has been rewarding, and helpful to my community - but I’ve been at it long enough to see that we will not be able to rely on the generosity of the wealthy or the moods of corrupt politicians to solve our problems. There will never be enough crumbs to trickle down to end homelessness, hunger, or climate change. Only a government of the people focused on affordability for all will move us off the path of destruction we are currently on.

I’ve been a registered Democrat since 2010 when I turned eighteen and registered to vote. I am well aware of the party's faults and refuse to give the old guard a pass for their repeated failures.  The Democratic Party is more concerned with holding power than wielding it to affect positive change - afraid to anger donors as people lose their housing, their health, and their lives.  My family struggled in Biden's economy just as much as under Trump’s. Here in Prince George’s County, we are finding ourselves competing for the same ever shrinking job pool, and the jobs are paying less and less. My family knows what it’s like to scrape by month after month through hard work, and the love of our community - but there are no small-scale solutions to large-scale harms. Our social safety net was made with holes so large some people fall through it and never recover, by design. We need to push for radical change together - and soon.

The issues we face were a crisis before I was born and I refuse to let my children deal with it. The time to fight is now. We need a representative that can say the Genocide in Gaza is wrong. We need a representative that is funded by the people, not oligarchs. We need a representative like me, who understands what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck and wonder how the rent will be paid. We need someone who will push the party to be better.

Why Khyre?

I have always worked to help others and have been content to be in the background.

But with so much at stake, we cannot wait around for others to figure out what is right or how to fight.

In 2017, Obama called on us to take up a clipboard and run ourselves if we were disappointed in our representatives. So here I am ready to get to work. Ready to move Forward, Faster!

What I believe

This year is a year when the American people will have a chance to vote for change for the better. We have to be honest about our own party and the failings that led to a decade of Trump.

Some members of this party seem to think the issues are more complicated than they are, they have to wait until their donors give them permission to ask a question.

Do you think it’s an accident that Representatives that receive checks from AIPAC vote for Genocide in Gaza?

I do not have to wait, I am free and can say what I please. I will accept no such phone calls, or money from corporations or foreign governments.

To start with, I believe that Genocide is immoral and evil and the United states should not support it.

I believe that you can either own stock or be a member of Congress, not both.

I believe that with over 200,000 families in Prince George’s county we can afford to be represented by more than one of them.

I believe that you can be funded by the people or owned by oligarchs.

I believe that in Prince George’s County, we should not have any one that cannot afford rent.
